It’s not that I’ve not been working on the latest CVS, I have but.. There’s been a rather generous amount of paid development projects in the interim and so the development and release of mojoblog XXX has been backburnered till I could catch up enough to take same time off and reconcentrate on mojo.

I’ve just had enough time last week to pick back up (refresh my memory of where i was when i broke away from mojoblog/joomla dev) and am in the process of moving mojo project data over to my new workstation so, hopefully.. Once I get back up to speed I’ll get the latest stable iteration online for public download.

Towards the end of January 2009 I’ll be releasing mojoblog 0.17 which, by all current indications, will most likely be the final stand-alone release as an “installable” component for the soon to be deprecated joomla 1.0.15(legacy)CMS.

End of mojoBlog Development?

No, quite the contrary. Development is continuing at a steady pace with a poc (proof of concept) version of mojoblog nicely bundled into a near release of a8e.

I’ll post more complete details of our transition after the holidays both here and on the main support site joomlify.

Happy Holidays.

Mojo Folk wanting a simple way to display youtube videos directly within their mojoblog posts are in luck. We’ve been testing an older version of Roys plugin for the last two weeks on a clients blog (mojo’d, of course..) and it seems to work flawlessly with 400+ videos and counting.

Details for Youtuber plugin for mojoblog/wordpress.

Tested in mojoblog 0.16 and 0.17 (should work in earlier versions but, your mileage -may- vary)

PLUGIN: Youtuber v1.3.1

Author: Roy Tanck

Youtuber lets you embed YouTube videos in your posts very easily, and offers a few benefits over simply copying in YouTube’s embed code.

 1. Use simple ‘tags’ to place videos. This keeps your posts nice and tidy.
2. The plugin replaces the tags by valid XHTML code (unlike YouTube’s default code).
3. Set the width and height of the videos that are embedded in your blog.
4. If YouTube decides to alter their embed code, Simply update this plugin and have the new code for all your movies.

Since July of last year we’ve been compiling a listing of bugs, exceptions, incompatibilities and other issues between mojoBlog incremental releases. While we’ve been tracking down and fixing the majority of these, up until now there’s been no public reference point for folks looking to see if the issues they’re having are singular or.. common.

As I work on adding documentation and content to the new mojoblog.info support blog here, plans are to dedicate a category specifically on bug status and relative state (listing; severity, fixes or projected fix timeframe, cause and/or effect.)

In the interim please, continue to post bug-reports in our mojoblog support forums over on joomlify.com

The new mojoblog export plugin works by reading your mojoblog database, consolidating the pertinent blog data and wrapping it with xml tags for import compliance with newer WordPress installations.

Though I’m still working on getting mojoblog 0.17 ready for public release I’ve been able to push through and finish up a new export plugin for mojoblog users who want to either migrate their existing mojoblog posts over to a stand-alone Wordpress installation -or- more’s the case, update their soon to be installation of mojoblog 0.17 with all their older posts, comments, categories and custom fields.

The new plugin works by reading your mojoblog database, consolidating the pertinent blog data and wrapping it with xml tags for import compliance with newer WordPress installations.

This plugin will generate a compatible WordPress XML export of all your mojoblog posts, categories and comments for import into a standalone WordPress blog or, import into another installation of mojoblog. Based on code provided in 2.1+ versions of WordPress *(originally written by Matt Mullenweg and modified initially as a plugin by Aaron Brazell) I’ve been modestly redeveloping it yet again to function within the mojoblog component framework.

It's up. It's live.. and it's clothed in a plain-jane vanilla install of a8e/joomla. mojoBlog 0.17 (pre-release)

It’s up. It’s live.. and it’s clothed in a plain-jane vanilla install of a8e/joomla.
mojoBlog 0.17 (pre-release) features:

NEW - Themelettes integration, for user/blog stylin goodness.

NEW - Default template, cleaner, lighter and more semantic.

NEW - Clean, semantic, Search Engine friendly URIs and Permalinks.

NEW - Meta, Description, Keywords and Post Title(s) now display properly.

There’s more (much more) to shout about our upcoming release of mojoblog but, our proof of concept version here should give folks something to chew on while we finish up on the features list and iron out a few last minute details.

As mentioned, mojoblog 0.17 is what you’re reading/viewing right now. If you view the rendered source you’ll see our new meta in action, all optionally configurable from within the dashboard settings. If you run a w3c check on either our css or the rendered xhtml you’ll find we validate both, green! That’s both the mojo component AND our cms framework (a8e). Try to get xhtml1.1 STRICT returns with joomla1.0.15 eh!

Our new themelettes option in mojoblog should allow our more creative users the ability to “style up” their mojo in an almost unlimited fashion. Currently, we’re using a new themelette for mojoBlog called “summer”. It’s plain (so far) but we’re still building it so, stay tuned.

As should be obvious there’s been a slight delay in releasing mojoblog 0.17 as planned on the 21st of July. Due to multiple personal and professional commitments unexpectedly converging right around this time, mojoblog has had to take a back seat for next few weeks while my wife gives birth, I build the baby’s room, add a 3rd bathroom, construct a deck and install our new Japanese Soaking tub.

Mothers will understand, Dads most likely will sympathize. To the rest of you, I apologize.
